MBA established the Missouri Bankers Foundation in 1985 to provide funding for college scholarships for high school students planning to pursue banking-related college degrees. The foundation solicits and manages investments and distributes funds to support continuing education for Missouri bankers and individuals preparing for a career in the banking industry. Currently, the foundation manages four scholarship programs. Scholarships are awarded in May.
The MBF Willis W. Alexander Scholarship in the amount of $500 is awarded to five graduating high school seniors from MBA Regions 3-7. Willis W. Alexander (1919-1985) was a career banker and a past president of both the American Bankers Association and MBA.
The MBF John W. Rogers Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500 is awarded to two graduating seniors from MBA Regions 1 and 2. Preference is given to applicants planning to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia. This scholarship was established in 1997 and is funded by contributions from John and James Rogers, sons of John W. Rogers, who was a career banker and past MBA president.
The MBF William W. Quigg Memorial Scholarship was established in 1998 to provide financial assistance to University of Missouri juniors, seniors and graduate students pursuing degrees in a banking-related fields. The goal for funding the Quigg Scholarship is $50,000. Bill Quigg served as president of the Missouri Bankers Foundation for 11 years and was a past president of MBA.
The Scott Childress Memorial Scholarship was established in 2008 to create an endowment fund to benefit the MBA Young Bankers Leadership Division. Rebecca Childress, his wife, and Courtney Bonnell and Lacey Childress, his daughters, host an annual Scott Childress Memorial Golf Tournament to further fund the endowment. Scott Childress was a career banker and the president of Citizens Bank of Edina.
