NASA People Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements

A) Applicants must be dependents of current/retired NASA employees or reimbursable detailees with NASA for a period of 2 years as of January 2015. (There is no minimum period of employment requirement for eligible dependents of former NASA employees or former reimbursable detailees who died while employed by NASA.)

B) All applicants must, in addition to the NASA dependency requirement, be graduated properly from an accredited public, private, parochial high school, be graduated from a home schooling program in accordance with the home schooling laws of the state in which the applicant resides, or be currently enrolled in college with good academic standing.

C) An applicant must have a minimum combined high school and college (if any) grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or an equivalent. [Typical awardees have grade point average above 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. If unusual circumstances presented obstacles to your academic achievement, please explain.]

D) Must be pursuing a course of study in the science or engineering field that will lead to a recognized undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university in the United States.

E) A dependent under this program is defined as a student who is currently lawfully claimed as a dependent on the Federal income tax return of a current NASA employee, a retired NASA employee, or was lawfully claimed at the time of death on the Federal income tax return of a former employee/reimbursable detailee who died while employed by NASA.

In case of divorced or separated parents, dependency can be established upon proof of the above requirements by either parent. If the claiming parent is not the NASA employee, then proof of divorce or legal separation is also required. Any officer of the Corporation is authorized to make dependency determinations based on the requirements of the Bylaws.
