Larry Carp Memorial Scholarship

The Larry Carp Memorial Scholarship will award one $5,000 scholarship, renewable for three additional undergraduate years, to a St. Louis area graduating senior who is either an immigrant or the child of an immigrant to the United States who will pursue a degree in a STEM field of study.  The recipient will demonstrate unmet financial need at a nonprofit, accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States. Preference may be given to applicants who have participated in a music program.

Eligibility:

• High School senior from the St. Louis region
• Immigrant or child of immigrants to the United States
• Pursuing an undergraduate degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics)
• Enrolling in a nonprofit, accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States
• Demonstrate unmet financial need. In general, unmet financial need will be defined as the difference between the cost of attendance and the sum of the student’s grant aid from other sources plus the Student Aid Index (as determined by the student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
• Preference may be given to students who have also participated in music programs

Selection Criteria:

Recipients will be selected by the St. Louis Community Foundation based on the student’s commitment to, and academic preparation for, higher education; the quality of the essay(s); determination of financial need, and consideration of unusual circumstances. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Please answer all questions that apply to you, even if they are not marked “required.”

Renewal

Renewal eligibility requires satisfactory academic progress toward a degree in a STEM field, continued demonstration of financial need, and a renewal application submitted on time. Please note that because the award amounts are based on available funding and financial need that can change from year to year, the amount of this scholarship award may change if a recipient applies for renewal awards in years to come.

Notification

Application status will be changed from submitted to either awarded or denied in June. Applicants can view their status by logging in to their Scholarship Central account. Award checks will be mailed in early August to the college the scholarship recipient will attend. Information about renewal applications will come from the St. Louis Community Foundation.

Eligibility, financial need, and award amount for this scholarship program will be determined by the St. Louis Community Foundation.
