The Larry Carp Memorial Scholarship will award one $1,000 scholarship, renewable for three additional undergraduate years, to a St. Louis area graduating senior who is either an immigrant or the child of an immigrant to the USA who will pursue a degree in a STEM field of study. The recipient will demonstrate financial need at an accredited US college or university. Preference may be given to applicants who have participated in a music program.
Eligibility:
- High School senior from the St. Louis region
- Immigrant or child of immigrants to the United States
- Strong record and potential in a field of science, technology, engineering, or math
- Financial need
- Preference may be given to students who have also participated in music programs
Selection:
Selection and determination of financial need are the responsibility of the St. Louis Community Foundation and may include evaluators from STEM fields.
Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of:
- application
- student’s extracurricular involvement, including evidence of scientific interests
- essay on role of science to improve the human condition
- two letters of reference—science or math teacher, one other
- transcript and standardized test results that demonstrate past success and potential for future success in the sciences
Financial need will be evaluated based on information provided by the student, family and college:

- FAFSA Student Aid Report
- Financial Aid award letter from the college the student will attend.
Incomplete applications will not be considered. Please answer all questions that apply to you, even if they are not marked “required.”
Renewal eligibility requires satisfactory academic progress toward a degree in a STEM field, continued demonstration of financial need, and a renewal application submitted on time.
Notification
Application status will be changed from submitted to either awarded or denied in June. Applicants can view their status by logging in to their Scholarship Central account.
