Fund Description
Lawrence E. and Mabel Jackson Rudberg Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance for post-secondary education to graduating seniors from Two Harbors Senior High School and from Duluth public and private high schools. Special distributions from the Fund also support a nonprofit program in the area.
Selection Criteria
The Scholarship Committee of the Community Foundation will select individual scholarship recipients. They will base their decision on the applicant's academic record, financial need, and written recommendations and involvement in community and extra-curricular activities. In addition, some students may be interviewed by members of the Scholarship Committee or its representative.
Fund Story
The Lawrence and Mabel Rudberg Scholarship was established in 1999 as a memorial to Lawrence and Mabel Rudberg. From Duluth and Two Harbors respectively, Dr. and Mrs. Rudberg both spent their professional lives teaching. Dr. Rudberg was a professor of economics and Mrs. Rudberg was an elementary school teacher. Following their retirements, the Rudbergs returned to Duluth where they enjoyed rich and fulfilling retirement years filled with travel and the mastering of new fields such as computer technology. They recognized they importance of higher education and had a strong commitment to provide financial assistance to students pursuing a college degree.
