Senator Teel Bivins Scholarship

Scholarship Value: $1,000
Awards Available: 1

This scholarship was established by Senator Teel Bivins in 1999. The scholarship is for graduating high school seniors located within Senate District 31 who wish to pursue a degree and teacher certification in education.

While serving as the President Pro Tempore of the Texas State Senate during the 76th Legislative Session, Senator Bivins declined the opportunity to serve as "Governor for a Day," requiring that he preside over a traditional celebration in which his friends and colleagues would have spent their own funds participating in the travel and expense of the celebration; and opted instead to establish the scholarship fund in hopes that his friends would contribute to the scholarship fund and "benefit the school children of Texas by educating the classroom teachers of tomorrow." Senator Bivins made the first contribution to the fund and friends and family statewide also contributed.
