The Montrose Community Foundation (MCF) helps to fund the futures of Montrose County students. In 2024, the total value of scholarships that we awarded exceeded $725,000. Click on the tabs below for more information including the unique requirements and deadlines of each scholarship.
DMEA Scholarships
MCF helps administer more than $100,000 in scholarships for Delta-Montrose Electric Association (DMEA). DMEA offers scholarships to local students each year. Funding is made available through DMEA’s Unclaimed Capital Credits Fund.
Scholarships are available for graduating seniors from Delta, Montrose, Cedaredge, Olathe, North Fork High Schools including non-traditional schools. Scholarships are also available for continuing ed students and those attending Technical College of the Rockies, Hotline School and Colorado Mesa University-Montrose Campus.

Montrose Chamber - Ken Gale Scholarship
The Montrose Chamber Ken Gale Scholarship was created to reflect the values of this remarkable individual. The scholarship will be awarded to the student who best exemplifies the qualities that Mr. Gale demonstrated throughout his career in the Montrose Community.
Mr. Gale’s achievements as Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, City Councilman, and Mayor of Montrose reflected an interest in business, government, and community affairs.
In addition to meeting the eligibility criteria, this scholarship is granted to the student that has demonstrated a high level of community service. This involvement should represent a ‘spirit’ that has taken the applicant beyond themselves and into the community. Similar to the ‘spirit’ that Ken Gale himself showed. This is not a needs-based scholarship.
For 2025, One, $1250 non-renewable scholarship will be awarded.
To be eligible for this scholarship applicants must:
- Be a graduating senior of a Montrose County High School or a past graduate attending Colorado Mesa University Montrose campus.
- Show community involvement. This involvement should show that the applicant worked beyond themself for their community.
- Be planning to attend a post-secondary institution in the fall of the year the scholarship is awarded. This includes: college, university, junior college, community college, technical institute, or vocational-technical school.
REQUIRED Documents & Attachments:
- Online application
- High school or current college transcript.
- Resume including school activities, athletic involvement, community activities, achievements, honors/awards, and work experience.
- At least two letters of recommendations from school staff/faculty, coaches, mentors, or other personal references.
- Three essays
MCF COMMON APPLICATION: If you are applying for multiple scholarships offered through MCF, please note that for many of our scholarships with the February 28th Deadline the first section of the process is a Common Application that asks for Name, Address, Contact Information, GPA, Future Plans, Transcript, Resume and Letter of Recommendation. The Common Application information will be used for many of our scholarships and then you will be asked to provide the specific attachments required by each individual scholarship.
