Michael and Mildred P. Tochen Scholarship for the Arts

Scholarship Value: $2,000
Awards Available: 2

Known informally as the Millie and Mike Fund, this scholarship was established to honor Millie and Mike, New Yorkers who moved to Memphis in 1957 and enthusiastically entered into the Mid-South scene. Millie was a mom and homemaker who became executive secretary to Dr. Harwell Wilson, Professor and Chairman of Surgery at UT Medical Units. Mike was a Memphis businessman who in retirement became Memphis volunteer of the year for his work with Blues City, an arts organization, funded in part by grants from the Memphis City Council to support the arts in Memphis. They loved working with young people and loved the arts, and the Millie and Mike Fund was established by their children to honor their memory.
