Air Products has been involved in promoting and supporting technical education for many years. The company's chairman, president, and CEO, John McGlade, has been a strong advocate for SkillsUSA, a national nonprofit that strives to provide a quality workforce in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations. In October 2010, McGlade was presented with the inaugural SkillsUSA CEO Champion of the Year award in recognition of his leadership and exemplary work in the creation and support of America's highly skilled workforce.
Purpose
The new scholarship was inspired by the WGW, an organization launched last year for the advocacy, recruitment, and professional development of females in the gases and welding industry. The scholarship will be awarded to a female pursing higher education in a welding or engineering discipline, who has proven to be an exceptional student and is eager to start her career in the industry.
Eligibility
The Air Products Women of Gases & Welding Scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a degree in a welding or welding-related educational program. All applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:
A) Applicant must be a minimum of eighteen years of age.
B) Applicant must have a minimum high school diploma.
C) Applicant must be a citizen of the United States and plan to attend an academic institution located within a specific state.
D) Eligible candidates will be female.
E) Financial need is not required, however, priority will be given to those demonstrating a financial need.
F) Applicant must be enrolled in a two-year or four-year welding-related educational program.
G) Applicant must submit all required application information.
H) Applicant must have a 2.5 overall grade point average.
I) Student must be enrolled full time.
J) Award is only made one time to a student. Applicants may not reapply.
