The CUFBC was established in 1958 by BC credit unions to help members access post-secondary education and support systems. We are driven by a vision of a stronger social, economic and environmental future and a desire to encourage cooperation and social responsibility. Our goal is to support students who embody a community-driven mindset, and/or who face additional barriers, so that they can reach their full potential and make meaningful contributions to the well-being of their communities.

Who we serve:

  • Students with financial barriers to accessing or completing their post-secondary education.
  • Students facing additional barriers (single parents, caregivers, those living with disability, mental or physical health challenges, and others).
  • Students who embody a commitment to cooperative values and a community-driven mindset, and those pursuing social impact/values-driven careers.

Winter:  January 12 - February 15

Eligibility:

To be eligible for consideration for a CUFBC Bursary, applicants must:

  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Provide proof of enrolment, tuition payment and transcripts.
  • Provide a recent letter of reference from a credit union, coach or other individual that speaks to the applicant’s community involvement and shared credit union values.
  • Be a BC resident who is a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada or designated as a protected person.
  • Be in attendance at a public Canadian post-secondary school/program when the application is submitted.

Award Process:

  • Applications will be reviewed by an awards committee, taking into consideration financial need, additional barriers, cooperative values and strength of the application.
  • Students will be notified as to when they can expect to receive their funding, and payments will be made via e-transfer.
  • Recipients may be eligible for up to two awards per year.
