The New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA) will be offering the Environmental Career Scholarship for $12,000 in 2020.
1. Eligibility Requirements for major scholarships:
a. Applicant must be, and remain, a New York State resident.
b. Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who will be enrolled at a College or University by September.
c. Applicant must be enrolling in, and graduate from, a BS or BE full-time program with a focus on environmental issues.
Such programs could include but are not limited to:
i. Environmental Engineering
ii Civil Engineering with an environmental minor
iii. Chemical Engineering with an environmental minor
iv. Hydrogeology with an environmental emphasis
v. Biology or Microbiology, with an environmental emphasis
2. Application Instructions for both major scholarships:
a. Complete the online application in its entirety and attest to its accuracy.
b. Attach a scanned copy of your unofficial transcript in .pdf format.
c. Obtain recent Letters of Recommendation from a total of two (2) different individuals (one must be from a teacher/professor; the other(s) must be from someone not related to the applicant) and have them emailed directly to madison@nywea.org or mailed directly to NYWEA, 525 Plum Street, Suite 102, Syracuse, NY 13204. Letters must be postmarked by February 28, 2020.
d. Submit your completed online application no later than February 28, 2020 at 5 PM Eastern Time. Awards will be announced by June 30th
3. Selection Criteria for both major scholarships:
a. Career Objective (Essays): Relevance of career objective to the Environmental field.
b. Academic Potential: Grade Point Average and difficulty of courses taken.
c. Other Activities: Activities in programs and organizations demonstrating leadership abilities.
d. Character: Demonstrates an overall sense of good moral character and citizenship.
e. Environmental Interest (Essay): Demonstrates a commitment to pursue an education in the environmental field of study.
