Overland Park City, Missouri is a suburb of the larger city of Kansas City and is situated within Johnson County. The city of Overland Park is surrounded by the cities of Olathe, Lenexa, Leawood and Prairie Village. It is Kansas City's largest suburb.
The founder of Overland Park was William B. Strang Jr., who established the city during 1905. He envisioned communities of subdivisions that were self-sustaining and "park-like". Among these was Overland Park, a successful experiment that saw ongoing growth up to its incorporation as a city in 1960. The city of Overland Park boomed throughout the 1980s as the number of inhabitants and companies skyrocketed. By the end of that decade, the population was more than 100,000 people.
