Dundas is a community of about 20,000 residents situated in the city of Hamilton in Ontario Province. It was once an independent town, initially called Coote's Paradise. Occasionally referred to nowadays as "the Valley Town," Dundas has had the same population for numerous decades.

Dundas was name after John graves Simcoe's friend, Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada. Simcoe wanted to name a township after Henry Dundas, his boyhood friend, who had never truly visited North America. The township was incorporated in the year 1847 as part of Wentworth County.

Dundas, during the 18th and early 19th centuries, was a thriving settlement in Upper Canada, aided by its proximity to Lake Ontario by way of the Desjardins Canal. It was in the year 1856, when the son of settler Joseph Webster, made a stone flour mill just above Webster's falls. After the mills was destroyed by a fire, the site at the base of the falls became the location of the first hydro-electric generator within Ontario. Afterward, Hamilton Township overshadowed Dundas when it comes to economic success. Now, various Ontario cities have streets named Dundas, a reminder that the township was once significantly important. Dundas Street within Toronto was a route used by European settlers, and ended at the township of Dundas.

Many of McMaster Universities staff, students and faculty live in the community of Dundas because McMaster is situated in the western portion of Hamilton. The university population of Dundas helps to provide a vibrant arts scene, with a lot of potters in the region. Each and every year, Dundas provides art shows and tours of the art studios of the town. Famous summer events include the Buskerfest, during early June, and the Dundas Cactus Festival, in the month of August.

Webster's Falls and Tew's Falls are only some of the many wonderful waterfalls which tourists to Dundas can enjoy. These falls could be accessed by heading to the Dundas Peninsula from the Bruce Trail. One of the most famous spots within the community is Dundas Peak. Located on the Bruce Trail within Flamborough, the peak is accessible to hikers from Tew's or Webster's Falls. The view over West Hamilton and Dundas is breathtaking.
