Campus: Facilities, Residence and Location

The campus is located just across the Detroit Border, near the United States. It is a traditional port of entry to and from the United States, and is within a walking distance to downtown Windsor. Its main athletic and recreational facilities is in the St. Denis Centre, where it includes the Department of Kinesiology, some exercise equipments, a weight room, and a swimming pool. It opened its Medical Education Building for the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry Program some years back, and another building will be created as the new Centre for Engineering Innovation. Housing accommodations are also available. Students who plan to live inside the campus can stay at the Residence, Macdonald and Laurier Halls. However, students with a minimum of 75% admission average and a maintaining average of 9.0 can qualify for some deductions when living inside the Residence.

Student Services and Student Life

The university offers services to students, such as Student Counselling Centre, Student Development & Support, Child Care Services, Student Disability Services, Advising Centre, Food Services, Health Services, Student Counselling Services, Volunteer Internship Program, Centre for Career Education, Research Services, Campus Recreation, Student Development and Support, Community Legal Aid, Police Services, Public Affairs and Communications, and Student and Academic Services.

There are many student organizations inside the campus. Its athletic team is represented by the Windsor Lancers in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport. The University of Windsor Stadium is host to many inter-college sports activities, such as men and women's soccer, outdoor track and field, and football. The campus is well-known for track and field. It is headed by Dennis Fairall, who put the Lancers on the map by garnering eighteen National Championship titles in his nineteen year reign in the track and field arena. His many accomplishments have also given him the award, "Canadian Coach of the Year" for thirty-six years. The Lancer Football team is headed by Mike Morencie. In 2006, Daryl Stephenson was awarded the Hec Crighton Award, which is the most valuable player award given to football players.

For students who want to be healthy in mind and body, there are activities that the university offers, such as Mind and Body (integral yoga, tai chi, sivananda hatha yoga, power yoga, pilates), Dance Instruction (ballroom dancing, latin dancing, zumba, belly dancing, hip hop fusion) Sports Instruction (karate, kung fu), Fitness (cardio kickbox, body blast, cycle fit), and Spinning Classes. There are also intramural sports and summer camps for those who prefer outdoorsy or adventurous activities. For students who prefer to study, they can go to the Leddy Library.

Academic Programs

Undergraduate students can go choose from among 120 different majors and minors that interests them. They have the freedom to design their course of study, which will enable them to use their talents and skills to their utmost ability. Some of the interdisciplinary studies that the university offers are groundbreaking programs, like cross-departmental Bachelors in Environment Studies or the Bachelor of Arts and Science program. These programs allow the student to choose two contrasting subjects, like Computer Science and Music. Other innovative and major degrees that students can choose from are Social Justice, International Relations, Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Physics and High Technology, Computer Studies and Diaspora Studies. Most undergraduate education programs are not limited to just classroom activities. Many educational learning will also happen outside the classroom, where real world placements, practicum, and internships through the university's partnerships with non profit organizations, government agencies, and regional businesses.

Graduate students have the advantage of working for one of the fastest growing research institutions in Ontario, and they have 55 master's and doctoral programs, such as the only Ph.D program in Social Justice and Environmental Science degree from the Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research. There will be plenty of practical applications and original scholarship with the help of research grants and faculty mentorships.

Windsor, Ontario is the southernmost city in Canada. The region marks the only border crossing where entering the mainland United States from Canada involves traveling north. Windsor is one of Canada's major automobile manufacturing centers and is often referred to as the Automotive Capital of Canada. The city is home to the headquarters of Chrysler Canada. Automotive industries include the Chrysler mini-van assembly plant, a Ford Motor Company engine plant, a General Motors transmission plant, along with a number of smaller tool and die and automotive parts manufacturers.

Windsor tourist attractions include Casino Windsor, a lively downtown, Little Italy, the Art Gallery of Windsor, the Odette Sculpture Park, Ojibway Park, and nearby Point Pelee National Park.
