The Horatio Alger Association is one of the largest need-based scholarship providers in North America, enabling promising young people to pursue their dreams through higher education.
Every year the Association awards $18 million in scholarships to approximately 1,900 students who have critical financial need and are persevering through adversity.
In addition to financial assistance, the Association provides academic, personal and wellness, and professional support services to enable its Scholars to graduate and succeed in their lives and careers.
Horatio Alger Association administers over 70 scholarship programs, offering opportunities for students in various stages of their academic careers to achieve their educational goals and realize their potential.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible to apply for the Horatio Alger National Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled full time as a high school junior in the United States
- Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States immediately after high school graduation (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution)
- Demonstrate critical financial need ($65,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)
- Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities
- Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity
- Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0
- Be a United States citizen
