Awarded to a student entering the Bachelor of Arts program who is graduating from a PEI high school with a minimum average of 75%. In the event of two equally qualified candidates, financial need is the determining factor.
This scholarship is established at the University of Prince Edward Island in memory of Doris MacPhersonCaseley. This award is created by her children in respect and appreciation of Mrs. Caseley's commitment to herfamily, friends, and lifelong learning. Doris MacPherson Caseley was born in Hunter River, PEI, and inherited the value she placed on education fromher paternal grandmother, a school teacher in 1880 when rural female teachers were a rarity. Her need to continuously learn and challenge herself was evidenced by the reading she did on a wide range oftopics, the courses she took solely for enjoyment, and by her active lifestyle. She always had a youthfuloutlook, open-minded and enthusiastic. Doris MacPherson Caseley passed away in August 2004. Her legacy, which her family wishes to recognize in thisway, is her awareness of and commitment to those who choose to continue to learn.
