This award was initiated in 1980 by the Ontario Holstein Spring Show Committee and is designed to recognize young people (ages 25-35) who are actively involved in the operation of a dairy farm, have shown leadership abilities and have made a contribution to their community and their breed.
About
The four district winners receive an all expenses paid trip to to The Westerner Dairy Showcase in Red Deer, Alberta in October.
This award is funded by the Ontario Dairy Youth Trust Fund and Holstein Ontario.
The selection is decided through a combination of the application and a personal interview
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a regular or junior member of any dairy breed association, or a son/daughter of a member.
- The above-stated membership must be currently in the province of Ontario.
- Must have successfully completed at least the first year of a University/College program and be enrolled in the following year. Applicants may have finished their fourth year and be in an Agriculture Master Program.
- Must have returned completed application no later than June 15, 2015 to the Ontario Holstein office. No applications will be accepted after this date.
- No individual will be eligible for a second award.
- Unsuccessful applicants may reapply as many times as eligible.
- Must have completed application signed by County Holstein Club President, Secretary, Youth Contact, or other Ontario Dairy Breed club officer.
Awarding of Scholarship
Four scholarships will be awarded to students enrolled at a College/ University diploma program and four awarded to students enrolled at a University in a degree program. Consideration will be given primarily to agricultural background, 4-H and Junior Farmer involvement, with some emphasis placed on future goals. Other accomplishments may influence the selection committee in the event of a close decision.
