History:

The Ilana & Steven Rubin scholarship was established in 2016 as a promise by Steven Rubin to his wife Ilana. The purpose of this scholarship  is to help out high school students wishing to go to university or other institute of higher learning, in Canada or Israel.

Both Steven and Ilana were "C" students in high school; therefore, the scholarship is open to students who have obtained an average between 60-79%, and have been accepted to an institute of higher learning offering a minimum 2-year course.

Ilana Rubin, a second-generation Holocaust survivor, was a Hebrew teacher at several Ottawa Jewish schools between 1978 and 1990. After the Rubins moved to Florida, she continued teaching until 2004, even after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2001. When she could no longer teach, she served as a teacher's aide until 2006. Ilana was beloved by her students as well as fellow faculty members, and was voted "Teacher of the Year" more than once.

Steven Rubin spent most of his life in Ottawa, where he was involved with AZA, B'nai Brith, Federation, Masons, and many other organizations. An avid traveller, Steven has visited over 68 different countries. Steven continues to help others, improve the lives of many in both social and business aspects, and encourages others to get involved as well.
