Unique Family Scholarship

Scholarship Value: $1,000
Awards Available: 1

Our team at Hoffer Family Law Firm has had the pleasure of working with many different types of families throughout our work as a divorce and family law firm. We have seen firsthand how unique each family can be and how the choices made in each household impacts every person in the home. As we move away from this "traditional" or "nuclear" mindset we can see more clearly that no family unit is the same, and see how each family faces their own set of challenges.

This year we are honored to announce our Unique Family Scholarship. We want to hear from students who grew up in unique, non-traditional households. Who raised you? Whether this was a single parent, same-sex parents, a legal guardian, or childhood friend's family, we want to hear your story. How did growing up in your particular family unit shape your personal definition of family? ? How has your family impacted your life and made you who you are today? We are looking for students to explore the impacts of their upbringing and provide a perspective that may be unknown to others.

The scholarship winner will be chosen based on the criteria outlined below and will be awarded with $1,000 to go towards their higher education.

Eligibility

A) The scholarship is open to any current high school senior, college student, or graduate student who is a legal resident of the United States residing in one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia and who is enrolled in an accredited university.

B) Employees of Hoffer Family Law Firm, their immediate families (parent, child, sibling, and spouse), and persons living in the same households of such individuals (whether related or not), are not eligible to participate in the competition.

C) Candidates for this scholarship should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher and be in good overall academic standing.

Application Requirements

A) The candidate must submit a 750-1,000 word essay about their experience growing up in their individual and unique family. What challenges did you face? Explore the ways in which your family impacted your life and how growing up in your household has made you who you are today.

B) The candidate must submit a professional resumé that lists their experience, both professional and academic.

C) The candidate must submit a transcript from their current school. First-year college students, graduate students, or individuals who have recently transferred schools may submit an unofficial transcript from their current school, as well as the most recent official transcript from their prior school. High school students must also submit proof of acceptance to their college or university.

The recipient of the Unique Family Scholarship will be chosen during the month following the scholarship deadline.
