The President's Own United States Marine Band, in conjunction with the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, is pleased to announce its annual concerto competition for high school musicians. The winner will appear as a guest soloist with the U.S. Marine Band and receive a $2,500 scholarship from the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. Second and third-place winners will receive $1,000 and $500 scholarships respectively.
This competition is open to high school musicians (grades 9-12) enrolled during the 2020-2021 academic year. Performers of woodwind, brass or percussion instruments may apply.
IMPORTANT NOTE: After the 2021 concerto competition, the next opportunity for musicians of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments to apply will be for the 2023 competition. The 2022 concerto competition will be open to string and piano players only.
The final round of competition will take place at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021 in John Philip Sousa Band Hall at the Marine Barracks Annex in Washington, D.C. This final round will be presented as a recital open to the public and live streamed online. The competition's winner will perform in concert with the Marine Band at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 18, 2021 in the Washington, D.C. area.
