The GAWL Foundation awards scholarships every Spring to deserving women law students in Georgia. Proceeds raised by our Annual Silent Auction fund the annual scholarship awards. Scholarships will be awarded to deserving second and third year women law students attending a Georgia law school who have an interest in pursuing a career in public interest law.
GAWL Foundation Scholarships are intended to:
- Recognize women law students who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence and an aptitude for leadership and philanthropy;
- Promote excellence in legal studies by providing assistance to deserving students; and
- Advance the missions of both the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers (GAWL) and the GAWL Foundation by enhancing the welfare and development of women lawyers and supporting their interests, and by encouraging philanthropy by women lawyers in Georgia for the benefit of the greater community.
AWARDS GIVEN: Scholarships are awarded each year contingent on the applicant pool and scholarship funds raised at the GAWL Foundation Auction. In recent years, the individual scholarships have ranged in value from $1,000 to $5,000. Scholarship winners are typically honored at the GAWL Annual Sneaker Ball and will receive, in addition to the scholarship, a complimentary one-year GAWL membership. Scholarship winners are typically expected to attend and aid in the GAWL Foundation Silent Auction at the GAWL Annual Sneaker Ball.

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS: Current second or third year women law students enrolled at a Georgia law school (i.e., not “rising” second year students).
CRITERIA: Scholarships are awarded to applicants who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, leadership and philanthropic potential, and a strong commitment to the profession. Involvement in programs that advance or support women in the profession and in the community and participation in community service activities are given particular consideration. Scholarship winners are expected to attend and aid in the GAWL Foundation Silent Auction at the GAWL Annual Sneaker Ball.
