The First-Year Teacher Scholarship is to provide funds to assist the recipient in purchasing materials for his or her classroom.

Applicants may download an application from the TRTF website beginning September 15, 2023. All applications must be received in full by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2024. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

The names of the scholarship recipients will be announced on Thursday, March 28, 2024. Winners will be notified by email, and the names of the recipients will be shared on the TRTF website and Facebook.

TRTF has awarded more than $155,250 in scholarships since 2008.

First-Year Teacher Scholarship Application Process:

The First-Year Teacher Scholarship is to provide funds to assist the recipient in purchasing materials for his or her classroom. The Texas Retired Teachers Foundation (TRTF) will award 35 $1,000 scholarships for the 2024-2025 school year to first-year public-school educators. Applicants may download an application from the TRTF website at www.trtf.org beginning September 15, 2023. All applications must be received in full by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2024. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

Scholarship Applicant Eligibility:

An applicant must:

  1. be employed in a Texas public-school district and be teaching in the classroom.
  2. submit his or her application by 5:00 p.m. on January 26, 2024.

How to Apply for a TRTF Beginning Teacher Scholarship:

  1. Download the application at www.trtf.org.
  2. Complete and submit the application by email (sarah@trta.org) or U.S. Mail. Please choose only one method of submission.
  3. Submit the application and required documents so that they are received no later than 5:00 p.m. on  or before January 26, 2024.

Scholarship Application Review:

The TRTF First-Year Teacher Scholarship Committee will review all applications competitively.

Notification of Scholarship Recipients:

The names of the 2024-2025 scholarship recipients will be announced on Thursday, March 28, 2024. Each recipient will be notified by email and the names will be shared on the TRTF website and Facebook. Those applicants who were not a recipient will be notified individually by email.
