State Farm Companies Foundation Scholarship Program

Scholarship Value: $20,000
Awards Available: 100

The State Farm Companies Foundation Scholarship Program recognizes academically talented legal dependents of eligible State Farm® associates (employee, agent, or retiree*).

100 scholarships are awarded each spring during the senior year of high school. The scholarship award is $5,000 per year up to four years of college (undergraduate study) or until baccalaureate degree requirements are completed, whichever occurs first.

Students attending junior colleges are also eligible as long as the student is pursuing a baccalaureate degree and is enrolled as a full-time undergraduate.

The annual competition is conducted through National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

Winners will be notified by May of the student's senior year. Only those who advance in the competition will be notified and receive materials from National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

*A retiree is an individual who retired from the Company in active status and is eligible for retiree benefits other than retirement/401k plans.

Who is Eligible?

Children or legal dependents of a State Farm associate (employee, agent, or retiree), including step-children and foster children.

U.S. high school junior (11th grade/third year) students who will be completing or leaving high school and entering college in the fall of 2021.

Who is eligible?

Only high school students who are children or legal dependents of State Farm** employees, agents, or retirees can compete for these scholarships. Step-children and foster children are also eligible. Such students also must meet all requirements for participation in the National Merit Scholarship Program that are published in the Official Student Guide to the PSAT/NMSQT which is updated annually and distributed to students through their high schools.

A retiree is an individual who retired from the Company in active status and is eligible for retiree benefits other than retirement/savings and thrift plans.
The children of agents' staff are not eligible to participate in this scholarship program, as well as grandchildren of agents, retirees, and company employees.
Parental employment is one factor in a student's eligibility to participate in the State Farm Companies Foundation Scholarship Program. Therefore, if more than one parent is a State Farm associate (employee, agent or retiree), each parent should submit a separate entry for the student's participation in this program.

To participate in the program, students must take the qualifying test, the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) during the proper high school year. In general, students who spend the usual four years in grades 9 through 12 must take the PSAT/NMSQT when they are in their third year (grade 11/junior year). A participant also must be a citizen of the United States; or be a U.S. lawful permanent resident (or have applied for permanent residence, the application for which has not been denied) and intend to become a U.S. citizen at the earliest opportunity allowed by law. The Official Student Guide to the PSAT/NMSQT explains these and other requirements for the competition, gives detailed information about the test (including sample questions and a complete practice test), and describes the scholarship programs NMSC administers.
