The purpose of the Scholarship Program is to inspire academic achievement and to facilitate Hawaiians in their quest to attain higher levels of education, thus improving representation of Hawaiians at post-secondary schools and equipping them with the academic tools necessary to improve their economic welfare.
GENERAL QUALIFICATION CRITERIA:
A) Be a resident of Hawaii.
B) Be a full-time student in an accredited two- or four-year college as a classified undergraduate student or a vocational program full-time student in or out of the State of Hawaii.
C) Have a cumulative grade point average (G.P.A.) of 2.5 for graduating high school seniors or undergraduate students. If cumulative G.P.A. is less than 2.5 provide a letter of explanation for consideration.
D) Priority is given to current paid members of Hawaiian Civic Club of Honolulu (HCCH), including directly related family members.
E) HCCH bylaws/policy gives preference to applicants of Hawaiian ancestry.
The amount of the award is determined by the HCCH Scholarship Awards Subcommittee. Awards vary and are based on the quality of the essay. Scholarship checks are made payable to the scholarship recipient and the post-high institution and are mailed directly to the university, college, or vocational program financial aid office. Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, fees, books and other educational expenses.
