BPW/Maine, through the BPW/Maine Futurama Foundation, awards a scholarship in the amount of $1200 to a high school senior girl or recent graduate who will enroll in an accredited college or training program of more than one year in length.
Rachel E. Lemieux was a member of the Augusta BPW and helped to establish and serve on the original Futurama Craft Fair Committee which started the funding of Futurama scholarships.
Arline Andrews Lovejoy was a member of the Winthrop BPW and served the Maine Federation on both the Futurama and Scholarship Committees.
This scholarship is designed to assist student in meeting the educational expenses for the first year of post-secondary study. The scholarship payment will be made directly to the school to be applied to the second academic term, upon notification of the student’s enrollment during that term.
The Continuing Education Scholarship is designed to assist a student in meeting educational expenses after the first year of study has been completed. The scholarship payment will be made directly to the school upon notification of the student’s enrollment.
The Career Advancement Scholarship is designed to assist a student in meeting educational expenses. The scholarship is awarded for full-time or part-time programs of study, and may cover academic or vocational/paraprofessional business training. The scholarship payment will be made directly to the school upon notification of the student’s enrollment.
The Jeanne L. Hammond Memorial Scholarship is given annually to a woman, who is a Maine resident, with demonstrated financial need, to obtain an undergraduate degree or certification on at least a half-time basis.
Primary consideration will be given to those with dedicated school and/or community involvement in order to honor Jeanne’s life and accomplishments.
Criteria
The applicant must meet the following requirements:
A) Be a Maine resident who will graduate or has graduated from high school and who will enroll in an accredited college or post-secondary education this year.
B) Demonstrates financial need in order to complete educational program.
C) Have a realistic goal relating to educational plans.
D) All things being equal, preference will be given to BPW members or their relatives.
