The Dr. Roger F. Wendt Memorial Scholarship is administered by the Siouxland Community Foundation headquartered in Sioux City, Iowa. This scholarship fund was established in 2011 by family and friends in loving memory of Dr. Wendt. He spent 9 years as a teacher in the Sioux City Community School District and 35 five years in administration as an assistant principal, principal, director of secondary education, and assistant superintendent in the District. He proudly served the students and their families for 44 years before retiring in 2002. He then began his second career by being elected State Representative in House District 2 for 4 terms in office, serving as a member of the House Education Committee for 8 years.
PURPOSE: The purpose of the scholarship program is to assist seniors graduating from Sioux City public high schools in their pursuit of a post-secondary education at an accredited college/university in the field of education.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Applicants must be graduating seniors from East, North, or West High School in Sioux City, Iowa; have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0; and must be pursuing a degree in the field of education.
SELECTION CRITERIA: Selection of recipients is based on such factors as scholastic performance while in high school, school and/or community service activities, financial need, and essay evaluation.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: minimum of $500, not renewable.
