Hubert A. Nelson Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for Duluth and Superior high school seniors who intend to major in business or accounting at the University of Minnesota Duluth or the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
Seniors graduating in the top 25% of their class from a Duluth or Superior public or private high school and who intend to study business or accounting at UMD or UWS are encouraged apply. Students should complete and submit in the DSACF Common Application by the deadline day. A complete application will include an academic transcript (including standardized test scores), one recommendation and financial need documentation.
The Scholarship Committee of the Community Foundation will select individual scholarship recipients. They will base their decision on the applicant's academic record, financial need, and written recommendations and involvement in community and extra-curricular activities.
Hubert A. Nelson was born in Duluth in 1913. He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota and served with the Federal Bureau of Investigation during World War II. He was later employed in Duluth as treasurer for the W. S. Moore Mining Company. He served with the Duluth Development Company that was responsible for much of the renovation of downtown Duluth. The Hubert A. Nelson Scholarship was established in 1995 to honor his memory and to provide financial assistance for students studying business and accounting.
