Description: Applicants must have completed at least 30 hours of college with a 3.2 grade point average while attending any accredited four-year college within or outside the State of Nebraska. Preference shall be based upon both need and scholastic achievement.
Amount Awarded: $2,000 ($500 each semester for four semesters)
Availability: Two awards given each year. One John & Jan Wightman Scholarship and one Byron & Bessie Wightman Memorial Scholarship.
Two scholarships valued at up to $2,000.00 will be awarded. The John & Jan Wightman Scholarship and the Byron & Bessie Wightman Memorial Scholarship will pay the recipients $500.00 each semester for up to four semesters, in the event the students have met the following criteria:
Eligible applicants should be entering their sophomore or junior year and must have completed at least 30 hours of college without less than a 3.2 grade point average while attending any accredited four-year college within or outside the State of Nebraska.
The scholarships shall be based upon both need and scholastic achievement, with factors to be considered as set forth below.
At least one scholarship shall be awarded to a minority student.
Preference shall be given to any student (1) with a demonstrated interest in teaching in Lexington's dual-language elementary program; (2) with an interest in a career in public service with a demonstrated history of volunteerism; or (3) who has received
a freshman Foundation Scholarship.
