Completed application packets must be received online via email sent to Gloria McKearney, Scholarship Chair, at gloria.mckearney2@gmail.com by June 3, 2024.  Applications received after that date will not be considered. Applicants are responsible for the completeness and timeliness of their submissions. Selections and notifications will be made by July 15th, 2024.  Checks will be distributed by August 14, 2024.

2022-23 Buck Bragunier Leadership Award

The San Diego County Buck Bragunier Leadership Scholarship was established to honor Buck’s memory and unique contributions to the San Diego Chapter of AFCEA. Buck devoted over 20 years to AFCEA and the San Diego military community.

The winner of the Buck Bragunier 2022-23 Leadership Scholarship is Eleanor Jung from Mount Carmel High School.  Eleanor will major in Neurobiology at UCSD.

2022-23 Pat Kelly Impact Service Award

The Pat Kelly Impact Service Scholarship is a one-time scholarship of $2,000 awarded to a graduating high school student who has had the greatest impact in the community through volunteer work.

The winner of the Pat Kelly Impact Service Scholarship is Keenan DePaz from University City High School. Keenan will major in Biomedical Engineering at UC Irvine.

2022-23 Jim Loiselle Impact Service Award

The Jim Loiselle Impact Service Scholarship is a one-time scholarship of $2,000 awarded to a graduating high school student who has had the greatest impact in the school and community through volunteer work.

The winner of the Jim Loiselle Impact Service Scholarship is Sienna Pearson from Coronado High School. Sienna will major in Computer Science at Santa Clara University.

Common Scholarship Application

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • United States Citizen or permanent legal resident
  • Resident of San Diego County
  • High School Senior (in the case of the AFCEAN-Dependent scholarship, can be a full-time college student)
  • Record of leadership and volunteering activities within his/her high school, church, community, etc.
  • Cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Acceptance to and eventual attendance at an accredited four-year college or University in the United States
  • Major in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math curriculum

INSTRUCTIONS

Please fill out the application.  Your completed application must be returned with these supporting documents in one PDF file:

  1. A copy of your college/university acceptance letter.
  2. A copy of the Financial Aid Award letter from your selected college/university.
  3. A copy of your SAT/ACT scores (scores selected should be from a single testing date)* Since many colleges are not requiring the SAT/ACT test scores, the test scores will be considered in the application but are not required.
  4. A copy of current transcripts (including any college courses you are currently taking).  Transcripts can be unofficial such as a copy or printout of an online version of your transcripts. Your most recent grade transcript.
  5. Letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, sports coach, research advisor, or school administrator who knows your leadership ability and community service.
  6. List of other scholarships/awards won.
  7. Essay (maximum 500 words) addressing “How do you see your career in STEM making an impact on America’s workforce values and future?”
