LGMD Awareness Scholarship

Scholarship Value: $3,000
Awards Available: 4

The LGMD Awareness Scholarship was designed to reward students who teach others about Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophies, often referred to as LGMDs. There are two scholarship categories, merit-based and social media based. A total of four $3000 scholarships will be awarded in 2016. The scholarship money can be used for tuition, books, and equipment required for education courses. Students may apply for both scholarship categories but students will be awarded at most one scholarship.

Category A: Merit-Based Scholarship ($3000, 2 winners)

Entrants will be ranked based on their academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and leadership experience as well as their ability to teach their friends, family and acquaintances about LGMDs to help spread awareness.

The top two applicants will win merit-based scholarships. DEADLINE EXTENDED: Applications must be submitted by Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 12:00am PDT and winners will be notified by Friday, June 30th, 2016.

Category B: Social Media Scholarship ($3000, 2 winners)

Entrants will post a message and a picture (optional) on the Jain Foundation Scholarship Facebook Tab to spread LGMD awareness.

The contest will run weekly for 20 weeks starting on a Wednesday and ending the following Wednesday. The first week will begin Wednesday, January 6th, 2016 at 12:01 am PST and the final week will end on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 12:00am PDT. Students may submit a post each week during the contest to improve their score and the single highest one-week score for each applicant will be used in determining the winners.

Each week, the 2 highest scores will be posted on the Jain Foundation website and Facebook Page so that students will know the scores they need to beat to win a scholarship.

Scholarships are not awarded weekly; high scores from each week are used in determining the overall winners after the final weekly contest has ended.
