Elementary French 2 - 1st year


Continues the introduction to spoken and written French. Through practice in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar exercises, students will learn the vocabulary and grammar necessary to communicate in various situations. Cultural materials about regions where French is spoken will form an integral part of this course. Emphasis will be placed on improving proficiency in oral communication, reading comprehension, and accurate writing skills.



Objectives:

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

1. Speak basic French with standard pronunciation and intonation;

2. Engage in spontaneous conversations with speakers of French;

3. Demonstrate the ability to write grammatically correct sentences and short compositions in French;

4. Recognize and use vocabulary appropriate for situations likely to be encountered by language learners;

5. Read elementary texts and instructions in French;

6. Demonstrate listening comprehension of basic directions, explanations, dialogues, and brief presentations in French;

7. Discuss francophone cultures.
