The most important "secret" of essays is the absence of any rigid rules. But it will be good if you come up with a title and try to keep the typical structure of the text: introduction, body text, and conclusion. It is not necessary to make the introduction and conclusion according to formal rules. The essay is not an article or even a term paper. We have prepared 8 tips for students on how to write an essay.
Remember the topic and purpose of the essay
Your essay should respond to the title and the topic you are raising. Don't go into too much detail unless your idea requires it. Excessively detailed descriptions, even artistic ones, can serve you poorly.
Remember about the approximate scope of work and stick to it
Don't assume your zeal will be appreciated if you write a two-volume book on "How I see Myself in 10 Years" or "What Sport Means to Society." Of course, if you are the future Friedrich Nietzsche and know how to entice the reader with ideas or narrative, you can take a risk and write 20-30 pages instead of two or three.
Do you consider yourself a talented writer? Come to the library, open any essay by a famous writer or philosopher, and read it. Don't fall asleep on the first page? Compare your style with that of the author.
Write short - teachers are humans too! Two or three pages is usually enough to cover the topic thoroughly.
Divide the essay into paragraphs, add subheadings if necessary, and use visual formatting tools
The time to read canvasses of text is passed in the century before last. No one is interested in your ability to keep an idea in a paragraph for a whole page. Such a paragraph just will not finish reading. Make your essay comfortable for the reader.
Also, improve your calligraphy. Take a blank sheet of paper and practice calligraphy. The more attractive your calligraphy is, the better your essay will be perceived.
Don`t write a long introduction
You are writing for a prepared reader (probably only the one who gave you the topic of the essay). You don't need to talk about the problem's relevance or the importance of solving it for the modern man. You don't need to list the goals and objectives of the essay as you did in your term paper. The same applies to the conclusion. Do not waste the reader's time.
Your essay should have a structure
At least some. The introduction and conclusion should be by default, even if they are one or two lines. It is essential to structure the main body as well. Decide where you will put the problem and where you will argue or describe it.
The problem and its argument should be in one form or another. You can phrase the problem either in the introduction or in conclusion. Or in the middle of the essay. The main thing is to maintain logic and structure.
Avoid fluff in the essay
There is technical and semantic fluff. Technical fluff is all the words-parasites, an abundance of introductory phrases and words. In short, everything that makes the essay difficult to read. Semantic fluff is all that does not make sense, does not meet the set topic, and is generally not required in the essay. Although you can turn to a paper writing service at any time for help, you should write an essay directly on the subject.
Reread the essay before submitting it
Remove all typos and misspellings. Typos spoil the essay and its impression. Some teachers are ready to forgive even a sea of mistakes (yes, students do not always have perfect literacy). Still, they will never forgive inattention to the essay, characterized by an abundance of typos.
Use Microsoft Word or any spell-checking program if you send your essay online
Microsoft Word is every student's friend. Indent, highlight headings, and put the line spacing that makes the text readable. Make sure your essay is pleasant to read. And pay attention to checking spelling and punctuation. Regarding punctuation, Microsoft Word is not always a faithful helper, and you can make some grammatical errors even with auto-checking.
So before you hand in your essay, give it to a literate person to read. You can let a fellow student read it or a professional proofreader or editor read it. You can use Grammarly or any other spell-checking services to improve your essay.
As you can see, the essay does not have any specific writing rules. But some recommendations are still worth following. At least if you don't want to order an essay from professionals.
