Keyano College was established in 1965 as the Alberta Vocational Centre. It is a community college that is located in Fort McMurray, Canada, and its name was taken from “Keyano,” which means “Cree” or “sharing.” It partners with other schools, such as University of Alberta, University of Calgary, Athabasca University, and University of Lethbridge in offering students academic degrees in many disciplines without moving outside Fort McMurray. Campus: Facilities, Residence and Location

The College offers educational and training programs in these divisions: Upgrading Education (CUE), Trades and Heavy Industrial and Community, and Academic and Career Programs. Aside from these offerings, Clearwater Campus stands as one of the cultural centres of Fort McMurray through its creative institutions, such as the Keyano Theatre, the Norm Weiss Arts Centre, and the Keyano College Library. The campus also offers students housing accommodations. These are assigned from a priority wait list. The residence building is connected to the enclosed walkway that provides easy access to the King’s Lounge and the library. Amenities here include: six private bedrooms, a kitchen, three bathrooms and a living room.

The College offers students the following services: Child Care, Computer Labs, Conservatory, Health Services, Keyano Art Gallery, Keyano Theatre, Library, Be Fit for Life Centre, Business Link, Shifting to Wellness, SKILL Centre, Security, Sucncor Educational Technology Centre, Bookstore, Learning Centres, Co-operative Education, Convocation, Counselling Services, Disability Support Services, Examinations, Financial Aid, Health Services, and many others.

The Keyano College Students’ Association’s motto is: “For the Students, By the Students.” Its goal is to add more diversity and fun in the students’ experience through the following services: Student Services and Student Life; Academic Programs; Off-Campus Living; Student ID Cards (ID cards can be picked up in the Facilities department); Survival Guide (Prepared by the KCSA); Coffee Mugs (Buy a 14 oz. coffee mug at King's Lounge and get free coffee or pop for the first week of classes); Lockers (Rent lockers at the KCSA office before Orientation Day); Bookstore (Buy used books in the KCSA Used Bookstore); Health and Dental Plan (The Students' Association is now providing an extended Health and Dental plan to eligible students); Rings (Twice a year students have the opportunity to order graduation rings); Awards – Bursaries; and Student Connection Newspaper (This the students’ voice in the school campus).

Scholarships and Financial Aid

There are many times of scholarships given by the College. Athletic Awards are given to students who play in the ACAC, league sports, and tournament; Entrance Awards are for entering first-year students who are taking full-time courses in the College (in the Fall Semester), or those who are going through their first year of a career program from a College Preparation Program; Excellence Scholarships are for students who have an average grade of 80% or higher in their five core Grade 12 courses; Exiting Awards are given to students who are required to leave the College as a requisite for their program completion at another post-secondary school; External Awards are awards given by external beneficiaries.

Fort McMurray is a community in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, in the northeastern part of Alberta, Canada. Fort McMurray is a multicultural community, attracting people from all corners of Canada and the world. Albertans make up almost half the number of migrants to Fort McMurray, followed by 17% of people originating from the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Fort McMurray has a borderline humid continental climate with long, very cold winters and fairly warm but short summers. Temperatures average -19°C in winter In July temperatures average 17°C, with the highest recorded being 37°C in August.
